Mars in Capricorn: what it shows
The courage and drive of Mars take on the manner of the sign it occupies. Capricorn is a movable earth sign of Saturn, practical, ambitious and disciplined. Here the graha is exalted, so its finest qualities flow with ease and its results tend to be generous.
How comfortable Mars is in Capricorn
Mars is exalted in Capricorn, one of its strongest placements. Its natural significations come through readily and constructively, provided the rest of the chart supports it.
The nature of Capricorn
Capricorn is a Earth sign of Movable (Chara) nature, ruled by Saturn. Mars placed here takes on that element's temperament and that ruler's priorities.
Mars and the Earth element
Mars in an earth sign turns raw energy into stamina. Effort is steady and practical, and the native is willing to work long hours for land, property, machines or a craft. The rishis linked Mars to land and siblings, and earth makes those themes concrete. Patience is this placement's strength, and its classical caution is stubbornness when plans are questioned.
How Capricorn shapes the pace of Mars
Capricorn is a movable sign, chara Rashi, which the tradition links to beginnings, travel and change. Mars here acts on its themes quickly and likes fresh starts. Results tend to come through initiative rather than waiting, and the native is often happiest when a new project is under way.
Mars as a guest of Saturn
Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, which is neutral toward Mars in Parashara's scheme of planetary friendship. The tradition reads this as a guest in a polite home: results come according to the planet's own strength and the rest of the chart.
Reading a planet by sign
The sign shows how a planet expresses itself: its style, tastes and comfort. The house it occupies shows where in life that style is used, and the aspects and conjunctions it receives show who and what it works with. A planet's dignity (exalted, own sign, friendly, neutral, enemy or debilitated) tells you how easily it delivers its natural significations. Positions on these pages use the sidereal zodiac with the Lahiri Ayanamsa.
Why your Ascendant changes the reading
The same placement lands in a different house for every rising sign. The table on this page shows that house for each of the twelve Ascendants with a short reading, so you can see how one sign placement plays out in different charts. For the complete picture, including conjunctions, aspects, Navamsa and the current Dasha, cast a full birth chart.
