What the classical texts say about Mars in the 12th house

The twelfth house Mars brings expenses, hidden opponents and restless sleep, and is a Mangal Dosha placement in the North Indian count. Work abroad or in hospitals suits it.

The nature of the 12th house

The 12th house is a Dusthana, a house of difficulty that also brings resilience. Classical texts say natural malefics often do well here because they fight the problems of the house, while benefics may lose some of their gentleness. Mars in a Dusthana fights the troubles of the house well and is classically productive in the sixth, though in the eighth and twelfth it calls for care with accidents and expenses.

When Mars in the 12th house gives results

The results of Mars in the 12th house are seen most clearly in the Mars Mahadasha, a period of 7 years in the Vimshottari cycle, and in its Antardashas inside other periods. Transits of Saturn and Jupiter over this house or over Mars itself also bring its themes forward.

Worship for Mars in the 12th house

The twelfth house is expense, sleep and liberation. Keeping the Ekadashi fast and giving to temples turns loss into merit, the elders say. For Mars, worship Hanuman or Murugan on Tuesdays and offer red lentils and red flowers.

Houses Mars aspects from here

From the 12th house, Mars aspects the 3rd, 6th, 7th houses, so its influence reaches several areas of life at once.

Houses are counted from the Ascendant

The twelve houses (Bhavas) are counted from the rising sign at birth. Each house governs a set of life areas, from self and wealth in the first two to loss, rest and liberation in the twelfth. A planet in a house brings its own nature to those areas and also aspects other houses: every planet casts a full aspect on the seventh house from itself, and Mars, Jupiter and Saturn have special aspects as well.
