Dosha guide

Shrapit Dosha

Shrapit Dosha is the conjunction of Saturn and Rahu in one sign. The name means “cursed” and the combination is read in popular astrology as karma carried forward, showing up as delays and repeated effort. Like Kala Sarpa, it is a later rule not named in the earliest texts, and its effect depends on the sign, house and Dasha.

Formation

Saturn and Rahu in the same sign form the Dosha; some astrologers also include Saturn aspecting Rahu. It is considered stronger when the two are close in degree and when they occupy the Ascendant, the 5th, 7th or 9th house. Saturn in its own sign (Capricorn, Aquarius) or exaltation (Libra) is said to manage Rahu better.

How it is read

The common themes are slow progress, burdens that require patience and work done without immediate reward. In a strong chart the same pair can give endurance, organisational skill and success in technical, research or large-scale public work, because Saturn gives structure to Rahu’s ambition.

Remedies

Saturday worship of Shani and Hanuman, offering sesame oil, feeding the needy and recitation of Shani and Rahu mantras are traditional. Large rituals are performed at temples such as Thirunallar or Shani Shingnapur by those who wish to.

A Dosha is a flag, not a sentence

Classical texts mark certain combinations as Doshas because they can strain a life area. Most have cancellation rules, and their effect depends on the strength of the planets involved and the periods you run. Read a Dosha as a reason to look more closely at the chart, not as a verdict.

Common questions

Is Shrapit Dosha serious?

It depends on the strength of the planets involved, the cancellations present and the periods you run. Many charts carry a mild form that gives little trouble.

How do I check for Shrapit Dosha in my chart?

Cast a free birth chart; the Dosha section checks the classical conditions and cancellations automatically.

Can Shrapit Dosha be cancelled?

Classical texts list cancellation conditions. The detail sections on this page describe them, and your chart report checks them.

Do remedies remove Shrapit Dosha?

Traditional remedies such as prayer, charity and mantra are meant to support you through the period; they are not a guarantee and should never replace practical care.

Is Shrapit Dosha in classical texts?

Not by that name. It is part of later popular practice, so astrologers vary in how much weight they give it.

When is it most active?

During Saturn or Rahu Dasha and when transiting Saturn or Rahu crosses the natal conjunction.

Can Shrapit Dosha give success?

Yes. With a strong Saturn it often shows disciplined, persistent people who succeed later in life.

What is a simple remedy?

Regular Saturday service to the elderly or labourers and lighting a sesame-oil lamp are widely followed.
