Sade Sati (Saturn’s 7½-year transit)
Sade Sati is the roughly seven-and-a-half-year period during which Saturn transits the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign itself and the sign after it. Saturn spends about two and a half years in each sign, so the whole cycle lasts around seven and a half years and returns roughly every thirty years. It is a transit, not a birth-chart flaw, and everyone passes through it two or three times in a lifetime.

The three phases
The rising phase begins when Saturn enters the 12th sign from the Moon and is linked with expenses, sleep and letting go. The peak phase, with Saturn on the Moon sign, is felt most in the mind and in personal responsibilities. The setting phase, in the 2nd sign from the Moon, touches family, speech and savings. Many people describe the period as demanding but clarifying: Saturn rewards patience, discipline and honest work.
Why experiences differ so much
Saturn’s results depend on its natal placement, the houses it rules for your Ascendant, the strength of the Moon and the Dasha running at the time. A person whose chart favours Saturn may build a career or property during Sade Sati, while another feels mainly delay. The same transit also produces Kantaka Shani and Ashtama Shani when Saturn passes the 4th and 8th signs from the Moon; these shorter periods are read alongside it.
Working with the period
Traditional guidance favours steady routines, service to elders and the less fortunate, oil lamps on Saturdays, and worship of Shani, Hanuman or Shiva. Practically, it is a good time to reduce debt, avoid speculative risks and take on long-term commitments carefully rather than abruptly.
A Dosha is a flag, not a sentence
Classical texts mark certain combinations as Doshas because they can strain a life area. Most have cancellation rules, and their effect depends on the strength of the planets involved and the periods you run. Read a Dosha as a reason to look more closely at the chart, not as a verdict.
Common questions
Is Sade Sati (Saturn’s 7½-year transit) serious?
It depends on the strength of the planets involved, the cancellations present and the periods you run. Many charts carry a mild form that gives little trouble.
How do I check for Sade Sati (Saturn’s 7½-year transit) in my chart?
Cast a free birth chart; the Dosha section checks the classical conditions and cancellations automatically.
Can Sade Sati (Saturn’s 7½-year transit) be cancelled?
Classical texts list cancellation conditions. The detail sections on this page describe them, and your chart report checks them.
Do remedies remove Sade Sati (Saturn’s 7½-year transit)?
Traditional remedies such as prayer, charity and mantra are meant to support you through the period; they are not a guarantee and should never replace practical care.
How do I know if Sade Sati is running for me?
Find your Moon sign from your birth chart and compare it with Saturn’s current sign. If Saturn is in the sign before, the same or the sign after your Moon sign, you are in Sade Sati. The Sade Sati checker on this site shows exact start and end dates.
Is Sade Sati always bad?
No. It brings pressure and responsibility, but the outcome depends on how Saturn sits in your own chart. Many people mark the period as the time they matured, settled down or built something lasting.
Does Sade Sati affect marriage plans?
Families sometimes postpone ceremonies during the peak phase, but there is no classical prohibition. A Muhurta chosen with a strong Moon and favourable Tara Bala is considered sufficient.
Which remedies are commonly followed?
Saturday worship, lighting a sesame-oil lamp, recitation of Hanuman Chalisa or Shani stotra, feeding crows and charity of black sesame or iron are widely followed. Blue sapphire should never be worn as a Sade Sati remedy without a full chart review.
